I am so excited to share this update with you all. Today, you get to hear Greg Peterson from the urbanfarm.org interview me on The Urban Farm Podcast. It was such a pleasure speaking to Greg about the benefits of incorporating more plant based products into your diet. His listeners are very talented and excited about growing their food at home. These listeners understand how the more plants you can grow at home, the more plants you can eat at home. Greg has inspired me personally as well to incorporate fruit trees into my garden. In fact, all of my fruit trees currently in my yard have been bought from Greg, which I can expand upon in another blog. But today, it is all about nutrition.
On this podcast, we discuss the full spectrum of dietary choices and how we each get to decide our comfort level with where we are at on the spectrum. We also talk about calorie density and how easy it can be to lose weight on a plant based diet, as long as you understand this simple concept. We also chatted about the macronutrients carbohydrate, protein and fat and what percentage of calories we should try to obtain from each.
To get you motivated, I recommend a few different resources for everyone to start incorporating more plants into their diet. The first resource is the free Go Plant Based Guide to Better Health. If you don’t already have a copy, then be sure to download a copy of it today. Just click the ‘Start Here’ menu at the top of the page to get your free copy. If you are an existing member of our community, then I attached a copy of the free guide to the newsletter associated with this blog as well. The other two great resources are in the form of books.
The most important nutrition related book I recommend is The Pleasure Trap. This book will completely change your perspective and relationship with food. This book is built around the concept the authors refer to as “The Motivational Triad”, our innate motivation to always seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. These factors affect so many of our decisions, especially when food is concerned, which is why this book is a must read for anyone wanting to get control of their diet.
Then there is my family’s favorite recipe book called Plant Powered Families. Similarly, if you were to only buy one recipe book on the market, this should be the book. It doesn’t matter if you have kids or not. These recipes are primarily whole food plant based recipe which are absolutely delicious but also very nutritious.
But without further ado, click the play button below (audio only) and enjoy the podcast. Be sure to leave comments or ask questions below. Don’t be shy either, if you think your family and friends would enjoy listening in, then share this blog on Facebook and Twitter and let’s spread the message.
